What’s the most unusual item you have sold at auction?
As Auctioneers, we get asked this question frequently, and it is a fun question to contemplate. In the news now is an item that “takes the cake”. The London (AP) is reporting today that a piece of five-layer cake from Charles and Di’s royal wedding 40-years earlier is up for auction. Although it is an opulent slice, it ranks with one of the world’s most unusual auction items.
The Auctioneer Dominic Winter’s Auctioneers is offering a piece from one of the 23 original wedding cakes from the wedding, it was given to Moyra Smith a member of the Queen Mother’s household.
As an Auctioneer, I have marveled at overseas auctions for Coy fish, and one can search online and find unusual items from a Holy Dorito, a Christmas card from Ted Bundy to John Lennon’s Porcelain stool that sold for over $14,000.
GRS has sold the World’s Largest Keg Smoker a Scat Hovercraft, an African Divination Bowl, a Motorcycle from XXX Vin Diesel movie, a trampoline park, a boxing ring, and a chicken plucker but nothing that takes the level of Royal cake.
